Another of Wenger’s early signings, Pires struggled initially after joining the club from Marseille in 2000 but, after adapting to the English game, won the double in his second season, as well as picking up the FWA Footballer of the Year award. He scored the winner in the 2003 FA Cup final against Southampton and was a key member of Arsenal’s famous invincible title winning squad the following year. He picked up a third FA Cup winner’s medal in 2005 before leaving the club to join Villarreal in 2006. In total, Pires scored 84 goals in 284 games for Arsenal and won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
